Victoria Wedding Video | Laurin + Manuel | The Beach House Wedding, Victoria, BC

August 30, 2019

“I carry your heart with me. I carry it in my heart. I am never without it. Anywhere I go, you go, my dear.”

What a way to start a journey together. Laurin and Manu’s wedding was an incredible celebration of a couple who were destined to meet and the global community of friends and family who supported them along the way. By chance, the two ended up staying at the same hostel on a trip to Costa Rica and, despite the fact that Laurin lived in Canada and Manu in Germany, they ended up together in the perfect international love story.

Before we go any further here, let me also mention that Laurin is an incredibly talented Art Director in the film industry, and she was able to create the most stunning, sentimental, and personal decor for the wedding. Each table had a different theme, globes and travel details were everywhere (right down to the passport-inspired invitations), and the already-beautiful space at the Beach House sparkled with gold.

We talk a lot with our couples about finding ways to tell your story on your wedding day, to celebrate where you’ve been together, how you arrived at your wedding day, and who helped to get you there, and there are lots of different ways to do that. Personal vows, letters to each other, or well-crafted speeches can all help to tell your story. But Laurin and Manu took it to the next level and used every detail, from the centerpieces to the seating chart, to highlight a piece of their wonderful love story.

There are so many favourite moments and details in this film that it’s hard to pick just one thing. But, if I had to, I think my favourite moment is at 04:45 when we see Laurin’s parents watching the first dance. We pride ourselves in having a documentary, fly-on-the-wall style, and a preference for candid, natural moments. But, what does that mean, exactly? Well, I think the moment at 04:45 sums it up without words. You can’t script that kind of shot and you can’t plan for it. To capture that genuine, raw emotion means reacting quickly and subtly, not spoiling the moment by drawing attention to it. When we get those kinds of shots, we feel all the good feelings, and we hope you do too.
