Cancun Wedding Video | Alexa and Trevor | Dreams Riviera Resort Wedding, Cancun, Mexico
November 19, 2019
It’s difficult to express just how fortunate we feel to have been a part of this incredible celebration of two wonderful people. I’m not often lost for words (which you’ll know if you’ve been reading through the other blog posts), but it’s taken me a long time to try and find the words to describe this wedding to you, and even then I’m not sure that I’ve done it justice.
I’ll begin by saying that we’ve known Alexa, of Artistry by Alexa, for a long time now. We met her when both of our companies were pretty new, and we’ve always enjoyed working with her. She said to me one day, early on, that when she got married, we’d be there to film it. I had no idea at that point just how incredible an offer that really was. Alexa and her team are excellent at their job and we’ve always loved working with them. They go out of their way to put clients at ease and to make our job as videographers easy. And, as we got to know Alexa over the years, we discovered how hard-working, passionate, smart, and kind she is. Whoever marries this lady, I thought, is going to have to be one amazing person.
I’m not going to describe the story of how Alexa and Trevor met. It’s their story to tell, and I’ll let you watch the film to understand parts of it. And, I’m not going to tell you how Trevor connected with his family all over the world. That’s his story, and it would take me too long to tell it all here anyway. But, I will say that when we heard those two stories in our meetings with Alexa and Trevor, we were sure that this guy was one amazing person, and we were so happy that our friend Alexa had met someone like him. And, because of their incredible story, the love that they felt not only for each other, but for all of the people close to them, the people who helped get them to where they are today, was clear. And, we could tell that the people in Alexa and Trevor’s lives, who are spread all over the world, would travel anywhere to celebrate with these two.
So, why not Mexico?
Destination weddings are incredible not only because of the activities, the pools, the journey, and (if you’re lucky) the swim-up bar. They’re incredible because you can have all your people in one place for more than just a day. Your people can get to know each other. They can go snorkeling together. They can go out for lunch together. They can play games, have drinks, and explore a new place together. And, by the end of the week, your people don’t just feel close and connected with you, they feel close and connected to each other. I’m sure it doesn’t work that way every time, but when it does work, it’s magical. This trip was magical.
Alexa and Trevor brought their friends and family together from Victoria, Regina, Halifax, and Scotland. We all got a chance to know each other a few days before the wedding so that by the time the wedding day rolled around, there wasn’t any awkwardness. And, by the end of the week, we were all so sad to leave, not just because it was Mexico, but because it was hard to know when we’d all see each other again. And, I’m including us as vendors in that, because by the end of the week we didn’t feel like just vendors invited to capture the wedding - we felt like close friends.
“If marriage was simply an agreement between two people, this would have been a much smaller event,” said Trevor’s biological father as he officiated the ceremony, and it was the perfect way to start our film. Marriage is an agreement between two people, of course. But it’s also an acknowledgement and commitment from a group of people. Together, as witnesses, your family and friends commit to be there to support you. “We’re here because we’re the people who intend to stick around long into the future, for better and for worse, and all that kind of stuff,” Alan continues. “And through this marriage, we’re all getting related in a way.”
It was an honour to be present not just for the joining of these two wonderful individuals, Alexa and Trevor, but to witness and capture the joining of this family over a week of sand, sun, and fun. We’d go back in a heartbeat, not only because the Dreams Riveria Resort was out of this world, but because getting to witness these people coming together was so meaningful, so rewarding, and so emotional that we can’t watch this film without tearing up. Thank you, Alexa and Trevor, for giving us this experience that we won’t ever forget.
