Are we the right fit for your business film?

We’re not for everyone!

We’re not for everyone, and we’re okay with that! We know it can be tough to find the right videographer for your project, and it can be difficult to find someone who fits your personality, budget, timeline, goals, and more. Whether this is your first time hiring a videographer or the fiftieth, we want to make that process a little easier by providing a sense of what we’re best at. We say we film “personal, people-focused, story-driven” films - but what does that actually mean in practice?

Hopefully the chart on this page gives you a good sense of how we work, what we’re good at, and what another company might be better at. Of course, don’t hesitate to ask us if you have questions about your project - we’re always happy to brainstorm and talk through whether or not we’ll be the best fit for your project!

Are we the right fit for your business video project?

  • To connect meaningfully, deeply, or emotionally with people - our clients, our supporters, or people interested in our cause.

  • To drive traffic to our site, to get lots of clicks, to sell a product, or go viral on social media.

  • We focus on creating personal, people-focused, story-driven films that work well for companies looking to connect more deeply with viewers.

What is the goal of your film?

  • People speaking! Our staff, our founder, our clients, or our stakeholders. These people might be doing an activity, talking about a service, or using a product, but people are the focus.

  • Products and no speaking! We don’t want anyone talking in our films, we just want a montage or creative concept that features our product or service.

  • We shoot in a documentary-style, meaning the action is natural, candid, and genuine. We’re not well suited for stylized shots of products or detailed explainer videos.

Who do you want to feature in your film?

What kind of film do you want - scripted or unscripted?

  • Unscripted. We want viewers to feel like the content in the video is genuine, honest, and said from the heart.

  • Scripted. We have specific language, terms, and key details we need to communicate in exactly the right way.

  • Unscripted doesn’t mean unplanned or unedited - we’ll work with you to carefully plan and edit your film and to make everyone look and feel good - but when it comes to spoken content, we typically work in an interview style to ensure things feel genuine, honest, and comfortable.

Why do you want a video?

  • We have a clear business need and/or problem we’re trying to address, and we think video is the right way to solve that.

  • We have the budget right now and we know that other brands have had success with video.

  • We work best when we’re creating a video with a goal in mind, and our process involves working backward from that goal to create a video concept.

Where do you want to launch your film?

  • Many platforms and places - we want a film (or maybe many versions of a film) that can be used on Youtube, in our e-news letter, and can go on our social channels. Our committed viewers will want a longer version to watch, while our less-committed followers might benefit from a short-form version.

  • Just Instagram - we need something sort, catchy, and with the potential to go viral.

  • We prioritise long-form films first. Deep ideas and messages take time to communicate! We like to create multiple options for multiple platforms.

How much time are you able to commit to this project?

  • As much as needed! We want to be involved in the creation process and hope to work collaboratively with Paper Heart Films.

  • I want someone to take this project off my hands.

  • Creating a film takes time, collaboration, and coordination from us and our clients. We work to get to know you and your story so that we’re representing your business and brand exactly right.

Who makes the final call about the content of this film?

  • Our in-house staff will work with Paper Heart Films to collaborate on the content, structure, and concept of the film, and the final approval is given by our in-house team.

  • Our marketing team at head-office or a marketing agency we use. Final approval for these things happens outside our office.

  • We find that working directly with the decision-makers is most efficient and productive for our process. Because we shoot in a non-scripted way, making big changes to a film after the shoot is complete can be very challenging.

How much time are you able to commit to launching your film?

  • As much as needed! We know that creating the film is only part of the process - launching a film takes a strategy and carefully planning and work.

  • I want someone who can handle that for me - I’m not comfortable with posting films to social media and/or I don’t have the time.

  • We’re not a full-service marketing agency. While we’ll work with you to create a launch plan and will do a delivery meeting to go over all the assets we’ve created, we can’t launch your film for you.

Don’t worry if you aren’t sure what the right story to tell is, or how to tell it–that’s where we come in!
